Overview

The following provides information on identifying the genus Entomacis vs. all other hymenoptera.

Higher Level Diagnosis

Entomacis is a genus of the family Diapriidae, which can be identified using the keys in Masner (1993). The genus is placed in the subfamily Diapriinae, tribe Spilomicrini. Masner (1976), Nixon (1980), and Naumann (1982) provide keys to subfamilies. Masner and Garcia (2002) provide the most up-to-date key to diapriine genera (New World) and a diagnosis of the tribe Spilomicrini.

Generic Diagnosis Entomacis - Foerster

(males and females). Matte spot (Fig. 2) present on lower posterior mesopleuron (Fig.1, "mts"), spot occasionally reduced to micropores only (i.e. without adjacent textured cuticle), extremely rarely absent; stigmal vein elongate, digitate (Fig. 4, "stigmal"), not distinctly bulbous at tip and without trace of distal RS; mesoscutum with one pit anteriorly (Fig. 3 "asp"); antennal formula most often 13-13, or rarely apparently 12-12 with A12 and A13 fused (Fig. 50), or rarely truly 12-12; T2 notch present (Fig. 6, arrow), extremely rarely notch absent.
